"A great spot for History & Culture Buffs, Art & Culture Seekers and Art & Craft Lovers — Prambanan Temple is definitely worth adding to your Jogja trip!"
Prambanan Temple stands tall as the largest Hindu temple complex in Indonesia, built in the 9th century. After being abandoned due to the relocation of the kingdom and damage from earthquakes, restoration of this historic site began in the early 20th century. Due to its outstanding historical and architectural value, it was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1991. The temple complex radiates a magical charm through stone reliefs depicting epic Hindu tales, including the Ramayana. On selected nights, this legendary story is brought to life through the Ramayana Ballet performance on the open-air Trimurti stage, accompanied by traditional Javanese gamelan music.
"Looking up at the pointed spires of Prambanan Temple transports you back to the ancient Mataram Kingdom. Dedicated to the Trimurti—Shiva, Vishnu, and Brahma—the towering structures symbolize the sacred Mount Meru. Each relief carved into the andesite stone walls tells intricate stories of ancient life and Hindu moral teachings. As dusk falls, the silhouette of the temples against the orange sky creates a dramatic, serene view. At the Trimurti stage, the rhythmic beats of gamelan and the graceful movements of the Ramayana Ballet dancers complete your evening under the shadow of the majestic temple."
