Sri Gethuk Waterfall is a rare year-round waterfall in Gunungkidul, cascading powerfully through limestone cliffs along the Oya River. Visitors reach the falls by boarding a traditional wooden raft that glides upstream through a scenic river gorge.
"The name "Sri Gethuk" comes from Javanese folklore about a beautiful water spirit named Sri who guards the falls. "Gethuk" refers to a traditional Javanese sweet treat, which locals offer at the waterfall's base as a token of respect to the spirit before visiting."
